Rob Hopkins sagt, dass Peak Oil viel mehr zu Verhaltensänderungen und Innovationen motiviert wie der Klimawandel.
In mittlerweile rund 40 Gemeinden und Städten (extrem schnell wachsende Grassroots-Initiative) gehen sie von den beiden Themen aus (Klimawandel und Peak Oil) und arbeiten mit einem Permakultur-Hintergrund und offenen, extrem inklusiven Prozessen an der sogenannten "Community Resilience": der Widerstandskraft bzw. Unverwüstlichkeit (lässt sich ein bissl schlecht übersetzen).

Zu den im “Transition Town Movement” entwickelten Antworten gehören viele Vorstellungen, die einem bekannt vorkommen: lokales Wirtschaften, lokale Ernährung, lokale Energieversorgung oder die Förderung der Selbstversorgung, aber eine wichtige Rolle spielen auch die Stärkung der lokalen Kultur samt Zusammengehörigkeitsgefühl und die Reaktivierung alter Kulturtechniken, die für unsere Großeltern noch selbstverständlich waren.

   increase resilience (to mitigate
   the effects of Peak Oil) and drastically
   reduce carbon emissions (to
   mitigate the effects of Climate Change)?" 

The community also recognises two crucial points:

• that we used immense amounts of creativity, ingenuity and adaptability on the way up the energy upslope, and that there's no reason for us not to do the same on the downslope
• if we collectively plan and act early enough there's every likelihood that we can create a way of living that's significantly more connected, more vibrant and more in touch with our environment than the oil-addicted treadmill that we find ourselves on today.
