From here we proceed in English. The problem with Open Hardware is there are no really comprehensive repositories as far as we know. So its legitimate to finally try to create our own repository here. But for a start lets look out whats already there.

Here in Dorfwiki we started with this:

Here are some prominent existing listings in the Web:

Wikipedia has many pages but no clear system yet:

  1. The Open source hardware page of the Wikipedia contains some links; plus some category pages:
    1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Open_source_hardware (General)
    2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Open_hardware_vehicles
    3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Open_source_robots
    4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Open_hardware_electronic_devices
    5. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Open_source_music_hardware
    6. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Open_hardware_organizations_and_companies
    7. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Open_hardware_licenses
  2. For news & updates on product hacking, see the list maintained by Stephen Vermeulen at http://vermeulen.ca/product-hacking.html (last updated in 2010, a usual no clarification why stopped)
  3. The Open Innovations Project has a well organized, and updated directory of projects which is the best place to gauge the maturity of the various projects. It has a lot ofdetails per project, and is organized as a real database!
  4. The 2008 Open Source Hardware Directory from Makezine, is conceived as a gift catalogue for hardware hackers.
    1. the same for 2009
    2. and 2010
    3. http://blog.makezine.com/category/maker-pro/open-source-hardware/
  5. Makerbot maintains Thingiverse - a directory of open designs which appears to be the most sophisticated at present.
  6. Open Collector has a database with open hardware and hardware design tools. Outdated.
  7. Hardware on Debian Linux - a collection of portals, projects, and tools.
  8. Open Hardware Repository - comprehensive resource for electronic hardware designers
  9. http://opencores.org (Special place for Chip Design for explanation see http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP-Core or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semiconductor_intellectual_property_core)
