Paolo Soleri Interview

Zurück im Karolinenhof lese ich eine mail daß es ein neues Interview mit Paolo Soleri gibt.

Der alte Mann, den ich persönlich kennenlernen durfte, wird sicher einmal als einer der großen Visionäre des 20. Jahrhunderts in die Geschichte eingehen. Allerdings denke ich mir, daß er sich bei der Größe seiner "Arcologies" schlicht übernommen hat - wir schaffen eine nachhaltige Bau- und Lebensweise auch wesentlich unspektakulärer, doch das Prinzip ist dasselbe:

Komplexität => Miniaturisierung => evolutionäre Überlebensfähigkeit

Frage: I noticed you have a weekly gathering for questions and discussion at Arcosanti that you call “School of Thought”—“SOFT.” That is a face-to-face gathering, right? It's not a webcast or a podcast?

PS: Not yet, but we wouldn't mind to enlarge the idea. There is some interest developing now in people outside of Arcosanti, that that should be pursued, but again we are very limited by affordability and the time that it takes, and the knowledge that it takes. We would like to have some, let's say, professionals in terms of thinking and technology and philosophy and so on.

Hoffe damit auch von der Netzkunstseite technische Unterstützung für LernCafe und VideoBridge zu mobilisieren. Damit die Bilder schärfer werden! Mit vereinten Kräften haben wir uns zur Wahl gestellt - und das Resultat iiiiist:

2800 Euro für sechs Projekte, also 460 für jeden. Eigentlich nur ein Zehntel dessen was wir uns vorgestellt haben. Das haben wir uns redlich durch "Krümel" der Wähler verdient. Die Trustees hingegen haben uns nix geschenkt im wahrsten Sinn des Wortes. Macht nix: wir werden das Geld im Sinn seiner größtmöglichen Effizienz einsetzen.

Heute vormittag mit Helmut Leitner beim Wikiposium der Österreichischen Computer - Gesellschaft. Wieder ein Artikel zu schreiben, die Erfahrungen der Dorfwiki Community sollen für den Wikiposium - Sammelband der OCG aufbereitet werden.

greetings from Vienna, Austria, where we are having an exciting weekend with FrithjofBergmann, founder of New Work, a worldwide movement to promote the necessary cultural changes for an Alternative to Neoliberalism and Economic Growth Madness. About 100 people were visiting a lecture and seminar in ElfriedeGerdenits job training institute "Business Coaching Partners" to kick off a reboot process for "New Work Vienna":

Frithjof is well-known to many of us and repeatedly touring the world with speeches and lectures on New Work. In many countries, groups have sprung up to take up that concept and work in the field of not only changing the workplace, but the entire meaning and foundation of work. The most central phrase that has made it to almost proverbial popularity is that New Work encourages people to look for the work they "really, really want". Hardly a message could be more refreshing for many people who suffer from the phenomenon of an economy who has turned work for the majority of people to a "mild disease" they rather do not apprehend as a need, but as a bitter necessity, a burden, a sickening thing - a world where people are either suffering from joblessness or overworking.

Frithjof claims that changes at technology at large make it possible for our society to totally change the attitude towards work and create a culture in which work again becomes the creative and joyful reality of the human being in actu.

So we are sitting together and browsing through some sites and ideas that might be relevant for the immediate future of our collaboration.

We start at http://open.coop, a very ambitious idea of Gary Alexander and friends to link individual entrepreneurs in a way that doese not create separation and diversion within communities, but lifts up community spirit and development of all people.

Frithjof replied that - seeing the sketch of the PlaNet 2010 software which allows people to easily connect and identify the ones in the same region or in the same field they could work with well over the internet, something like that would be immediately needed in the Midwest of the USA. The Midwest is known worldwide as one of the concentrated manufacturing centers, and F. has worked in that area with the automobile industry, but also the IT industry, on a great range of products that will be much simpler, much cheaper much more elegant, much more useful than those manufactured now, and in particular will be products that no longer will be manufactured by colossal corporate mono-industries, but will instead be manufactured in small local, "competitive", maufacturing sites.

The most ambitious of these projects which is at this point 12 years old is a project to manufacture a wholly different electric car that will be manufactured in a computzer connected large group of small manufacturing centers - hopefully around the globe. Frithjof has worked in a considerable number of countries, and then in the last 6 years quite especially in a number of African countries, and in particular in south Africa. He is especially interested in establishing connections with two kinds of groups:

• people who originally lived in African countries or have relatives in African countries who now live in the industrialized west and who would like to know more about New Work efforts in Africa and whoc could possibly suggest further contacts in these African countries.
• people who are intersted in a drastically different approach to the whole issue of working in the so-called "third world countries" and who could supply useful information or possibly even work on one of these sites in these countries.

Frithjof is offering to look for a way he can publically answer your questions, so that there is an accumulating numner of answers. Currently there is no English Language Forum on the web for new work, and the German Forum has been wiped out by a hacker. So we are looking now at this as an opportunity to radically improve online communication.

As well as this, Frithjof is going to edit a comprehensive proposal, useful for all people who want to address funders for New Work projects, but in particular based on the idea of a Community of new Work Entrepreneurs. This proposal will be made available on our GlobalVillages Wiki.

More than that, we need a way to reach all New Work Projects around the world.

DietmarOffenhuber hat mir vor wenigen Tagen geschrieben, ich lernte ihn vor ein paar Jahren - 2003 . im Ars Electronica Center Linz kennen, wo wir beide in ein Projekt von MichaelWeber von der ÖAR für ein "smart village" in Kollerschlag im nördlichen Mühlviertel involviert waren ("wo das wossa blosn mocht"). Dietmar war dann auch auf der Oekonux - Konferenz.

Er arbeitet mittlerweile auch am MIT in Cambridge bei Boston in der sociable media group von Judith Donath, und hier ist gerade mit Bill Mitchell (ein sehr bekannter Autor) ein "smart village" Projekt in Vorbereitung.

Zambana Project

Bei dem Projekt geht es um die Planung eines von einer Lawine zerstörten Trentiner Dorfes unweit der Brennerautobahn, das neu, nachhaltig und vernetzt wiederaufgebaut werden (für 1500 Bewohner) soll.

es geht vor allem um folgende (sehr grundsätzliche) Punkte:

• welche bevölkerungsgruppen gilt es anzusprechen?
• junge professionals wird man schwer aufs land bekommen (wenn sie nicht dort aufgewachsen sind und gerade kinder bekommen haben), und reiche Pensionisten / Privatiers sollen auch nicht die zielgruppe sein ...
• wie kann man eine (wieder) funktionierende Öffentlichkeit schaffen, was hat sich an (sozialer) infrastruktur bewährt?
• in welchen fällen haben solche Konzepte funktioniert, in welchen sind sie gescheitert? Worauf kommt es an?

Gestern fand die Veranstaltung "Gemeindebau im Gespräch" - Entwicklungen und Perspektiven im kommunalen Wohnbau in Wien statt. Das war ein großer Schritt vorwärts in unserer Bemühung, Jedlesee zu einem interessanteren Ort zu machen. Ich werde nach meiner Rückkehr vom Urlaub mehr darüber schreiben.
Transdisziplinär in Transdanubien!
Dank an Christoph Reinprecht und Lisa Donat vom Institut für Soziologie und alle Beteiligten und an Walter Hohenbalken und sein Team von der Gebietsbetreuung. Ihr habt Großartiges geleistet!
Jetzt kommt es darauf an , die Dinge auch umzusetzen....

Gut, man sollt halt wirklich akzeptieren daß ein Tagebuch gelegentliches Tagebuch ist und eher von den Tagen kündet da noch ein wenig Muße bleibt, das Geschehene zu berichten.

Also, das letzte Wochenende hab ich im Waldviertel verbracht und zwar in der Hauptsache auf einem Symposium in Neupölla mit dem Titel "Wohnen und Arbeiten außerhalb von Ballungszentren". Dort hatte ich meinen Laptop mit und fertigte eine kleine Mitschrift von einigen Vorträgen an: SymposiumNeupölla

Das gibts ja einfach nicht, daß die Zeit so verrinnt. War jetzt eine gewisse Zeitspanne wirklich weg vom Fenster (wie schnell erinnert uns so eine erzwungene Auszeit durch Krankheit an die Scheinhaftigkeit des Lebens) und hab gemerkt daß ich mir schon wieder das Vielfache dessen vorgenommen habe was ich bewältigen kann.

Gestern und vorgestern hab ich die Veranstaltung Mediamatik besucht und mich darauf konzentriert, daß mit unserer VideoBridge endlich was weitergeht.
